For our first meeting, we met at the playground to let all the students get to know each other, learn each others names, and play while the parents got to know each other, learn each others names, and talk logistics.
Our JrYAM (Junior Young Adult Mentor) had all sorts of fun things for the kids to do -- they created name buttons, built their names out of LEGOs and built a big fortified LEGO castle together before heading out to play Star Wars on the playground.
Sounds like a great group. Probably end up with 2 teams with the 9 students (5, 5, 5, 5, 6, 7, 7, 7, 9) but we'll see how they sort themselves after a few weeks before we decide which kids belong with which team.
